Reverse Acting Rupture Disc

Processes that operate close to their relief set point, or that cycle and pulse, fatigue a conventional disc and can trigger a premature burst well below the marked pressure. A reverse-acting (reverse buckling) rupture disc places the dome in compression rather than tension, so it withstands operating pressures and cyclic loading that would exhaust a tension-loaded design, while maintaining a bubble-tight seal until it bursts within its certified tolerance.

The Continental Disc Corporation (CDC) reverse-acting range carries maximum recommended operating ratios up to 95 per cent of the marked burst pressure (100 per cent under ISO 4126-2). The scored solid metal HPX is proven beyond 5 million full pressure cycles at a 95 per cent operating ratio and independently evaluated to SIL 4 under IEC 61508. The semicircular scored APX provides non-fragmenting opening for liquid and gas service, the RCS covers gas and vapour service in large diameters, the LOTRX reaches burst pressures below 1 barg, and the HPX-Ta in tantalum resists media that attack stainless and nickel alloys. Discs carry the ASME Section VIII UD stamp with National Board-certified flow resistance (KR), are CE marked under the Pressure Equipment Directive, and are selected and installed in accordance with AS 1358.
