In pharmaceutical, biotech and food processes, the relief device sits in product contact and must meet the same hygienic standard as the rest of the line, or it becomes the contamination point in an otherwise validated system. Sanitary rupture discs are built to that standard: they comply with the essential criteria of ASME BPE and USP Class VI, fit standard sanitary ferrule connections, withstand clean-in-place and steam-in-place regimes, and maintain a bubble-tight seal until they burst within their certified tolerance.
The Continental Disc Corporation (CDC) sanitary range centres on the SANITRX HPX, a semicircular, scored, reverse-acting disc that cycles from full vacuum to 95 per cent of its stamped rating, proven beyond 5 million cycles at a 95 per cent operating ratio and independently evaluated to SIL 4 under IEC 61508. The SANITRX HPX II extends the family to higher burst pressures in sizes from 1.5 to 4 inch, and the SANITRX LPX covers low pressure hygienic duty. Where a welded, crevice-free installation is required, the INTEGRX HPX is designed per ASME BPE-2019 with a standard wetted surface finish of 0.5 micrometre (20 Ra microinch) and full vacuum capability.
