Accelerometers An Accelerometer is a seismic sensor that converts forces due to acceleration into a usable voltage signal. A typical accelerometer will have a piezoelectric core and an amplifier packaged within a hermetically sealed case and in a way that makes it easy for mounting on machinery cases, bearings and equipment frames. Accelerometers can be used for many application and one of the most common is the monitoring of vibration for rotating and reciprocating machinery. The level and frequency off acceleration is used to determine and forecast the machines condition for maintenance and protection. Accelerometers can also be combined with other measurements to correlate other machinery and process conditions. Metrix range of accelerometers are constructed with temperature stabilised piezoelectric cores, patent Anti-ski slope technology for elimination of false indications caused by high frequency noise being rectified as low frequency and patent IPT polarity protection. Accelerometers are ideal for the monitoring of high speed machinery or where high frequencies are present. For lower running speeds and frequencies velocity can be a more practical solution.
