A Vibration Transmitter, in its most basic form, is a device that conditions a raw vibration measurement, relative or absolute, so it may be transmitted, received and utilised by conventional monitoring systems. A vibration transmitter could take the form of a stand alone signal conditioner which receives a vibration signal from a remote sensor located on the machine. Or it may be a combined sensor and signal conditioner packed in a single device which sits directly on the machine. Proximity Vibration Transmitters are typically used on fluid film bearings and monitor the physical air gap between sensor and rotating shaft to determine the relative vibration. The can also be used for thrust measurement to detect axial movement, wear and vibration. Seismic Vibration Transmitters use acceleration as a means of determining vibration experienced by the equipment being monitored. They are often fixed to the case of the machinery to transmit an absolute vibration measurement
